Currently, Australia has the lowest numbers of donors on the Organ Donor Registry in the developed world. Last year 140 potential recipients, including 20 children died waiting for an organ donor. As a result the Rotary Club of Williamstown has initiated an Australia-wide project called:

'HAVE A HEART, GIVE A PART'

Its' aims are:

To fully support the vital service provided by The Australian Red Cross LifeGift.

To raise awareness of the current Australian shortage of available organs.

Increase the numbers on the Organ Donor Registry.
Fund the Non Beating Heart Research Project at the Alfred Hospital.
Purchase 10 Heart Start Defibrillator Units for the Royal Children's Hospital. These portable life-saving units can be carried as a backpack for children with AED.

This new innovative method of harvesting organs will vastly increase the number of organs available for donation in Australia and worldwide.

The Bob Rose Have a Heart Organ Donor Appeal will be launched at the end of November in conjunction with the International Symposium on Non Heart Beating Donor at the Alfred Hospital. The funds raised over the next 3 years will be distributed to the various research centers in accordance with the attached flowchart.

Think.
Talk.
Tell.
So Think About It.
Talk About It.
And Tell Your Family Your Wishes.
